Dua for Umrah: A Step-by-Step Guide to Key Supplications | Islamic Wall Decors

When we go to Umrah, we often see many pilgrims holding small booklets and reciting special du’as for each round of the tawaf and sa’ee. However, there are no specific du’as for each round of these rituals.

Shaikh ul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said, “In tawaf, there is no specific dhikr from the Prophet ﷺ that he told us to say. Instead, pilgrims can offer any du’as from the Qur’an and Sunnah while doing tawaf. The idea of a specific du’a to be said beneath the mizab (downspout) and similar places has no basis.” (Majmu‘ al-Fatawa 26/122)

Even though there are no specific du’as, the Prophet ﷺ did make supplications at various points during Umrah. These instances inspire us. This list of du’as from the Qur’an and Sunnah is incomplete; you can make any du’as you want during Umrah, including personal ones for family and friends. You also don’t need to recite your du’as only in Arabic. Understanding the meaning of the du’as you say is more important than just reciting them without understanding.

We hope this list of dua for Umrah helps make your Umrah experience more meaningful.

Du’a before Starting Your Journey for Umrah

Before you start your journey to the holy grounds of Makkah, it’s important to spiritually prepare yourself.

The recommended du’a for travel (Du’a al-Safar) helps you seek Allah’s protection, guidance, and support during your journey. (Riyad as-Salihin 83)

“In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah, and there is no power or strength except with Allah.”

Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, subḥāna-l-ladhī sakkhara lanā hādhā wa mā kunnā lahū muqrinīn, wa innā ilā rabbinā la-munqalibūn, Allāhumma innā nas’aluka fī safarinā hādhā-l-birra wa-t-taqwā, wa mina-l-ʿamali mā tarḍā, Allāhumma hawwin ʿalaynā safaranā hādhā wa-ṭ-wi’ ʿannā buʿdah, allāhumma Anta-ṣ-ṣāḥibu fi-s-safar, wa-l-khalīfatu fi-l-ahl, allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika min waʿthāi-s-safar, wa kaābati-l-manẓar, wa sū’i-l-munqalabi fi-l-māli wa-l-ahl.

“Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the Greatest. How perfect is the One Who has given us control over this; we could not have done it by ourselves. Truly, it is to our Lord that we are returning. O Allah, we ask You for piety and deeds which You will be pleased with on this journey of ours. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and let us cover its distance quickly. O Allah, You are our Companion on the journey and the One in Whose care we leave our family. O Allah, I seek Your protection from the difficulties of the journey, from distressing scenes, and an ill-fated outcome with my wealth and family.”

Ibn Umar (RA) reported that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would mount his camel for travel, he would exalt Allah three times and then say this du’a. When the Prophet ﷺ returned, he would say these words and add, “We are those who return, those who repent, those who worship and who praise our Lord.” (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1342)

This dua for Umrah will help ensure a safe and blessed journey.

Du’a upon Arrival for Umrah

When you arrive at your destination for Umrah, you can say this simple du’a to seek Allah’s protection from any harm.

A’udzu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq.

Du’a before Entering Ihram for Umrah

Before entering the Ihram for Umrah, it is recommended to recite tasbeeh, tahleel, and takbeer.

Subhan Allah, La ilaha ill Allah, Allahu Akbar.

“Glory be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, Allah is Most Great.”

Reciting this dua for Umrah before entering Ihram helps you spiritually prepare for your pilgrimage.

Du’a for Making the Intention for Performing Umrah

Once you’ve entered the state of Ihram, perform two rakahs of Sunnat-ul Ihram. Then, make the intention for performing Umrah with this dua:

Allahumma innee uridul umrah; fayassir haa li wa taqabbalahaa minnee.

“O Allah! I intend to perform Umrah. Make it easy for me and accept it from me.”

Reciting this dua for Umrah helps you clearly state your intention and ask Allah to make your pilgrimage easy and accepted.

Talbiyah (Intention to Start Worship) for Umrah

When we enter Ihram for Hajj or Umrah, we begin reciting the Talbiyah. It should be recited as much as possible throughout the journey. You can recite it while standing, sitting, walking, traveling in a vehicle, lying down, in a state of minor or major impurity, or during menstruation. Umrah pilgrims should stop reciting it just before starting the Tawaf of Umrah.

It is recommended to repeat the Talbiyah three or more times.

Jabir bin ‘Abdullah reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “There is no Muhrim (pilgrim in Ihram) who exposes himself to the sun all day for the sake of Allah, reciting the Talbiyah until the sun goes down, but his sins will disappear and he will go back like on the day his mother bore him.” (Sunan Ibn Majah)

Understanding the profound meanings of the Talbiyah can help strengthen your connection with Allah. This will make your communication with Him more meaningful, inshallah.

Labbayka Allahumma Labbayk. Labbayka La Sharika Laka Labbayk. Innal Hamda Wan-ni’mata Laka Wal-mulk. La Sharika Lak.

“Here I am at your service, O Allah, Here I am at Your service. Here I am at Your service, You have no partner, here I am at Your service. Truly, all praise and blessings belong to You, and so does sovereignty. You have no partner.”

Reciting this dua for Umrah will help you stay connected with Allah throughout your journey.

When you enter Masjid Al Haram to perform Umrah, place your right foot first and recite this du’a:

Bismillahi wal hamdulillahi wassalatu a’laa Rasulillah, Allahummaghfirlee zunoobee waf tahlee abwaaba rahmatik.

“I begin in the name of Allah, all praise be to Him, and blessings be upon the Prophet of Allah; O Allah, forgive my sins and open for me the gates of Your mercy.”

Reciting this dua for Umrah when entering the Masjid Al Haram will help you start your worship with the right intention and seek Allah’s forgiveness and mercy.

Du’a for the First Sight of Kaaba

When you first see the Kaaba, it is recommended to recite the following dua for Umrah, which the Prophet ﷺ is reported to have recited:

Allahumma zid hadha l-bayta tashrifan wa ta’dhiman wa takriman wa mahaba(tan), wa zid man sharrafahu wa karramahu mimman hajjahu awtamarahu tashrifan wa takriman wa ta’dhiman wa birra.

“O Allah, increase this House in honor and esteem, reverence and awe. Increase the honor, esteem, reverence, and piety of those who honor and ennoble it, whether they come for Hajj or Umrah.”

Also, recite this dua:

Allahumma anta s-salamu wa minka s-salamu hayyina Rabbana bi s-salam.

“O Allah, You are peace, and from You is peace. Give us life, our Lord, in the Abode of Peace.”
